A Liberal Alternative

South Africa cannot reverse its downward slide simply by tweaking some of its current policies. Something fundamentally different is required. John Kane-Berman will set out an alternative set of policies and ideas based on classically liberal principles.

John Kane-Berman was educated at St John’s College, Wits, and Oxford (where he was a Rhodes Scholar). After a ten-year career in local and international journalism he joined the South African Institute of Race Relations in 1983 as its chief executive, a position he held until two years ago. Currently he is a policy fellow at the Institute. He writes a weekly column on political and economic issues for PoliticsWeb.
